Purchasing a holiday home is one of the most exciting and rewarding decisions you can make. And a big part of making that decision is choosing where you’re going to settle in your new holiday home. Northern Ireland is an excellent choice for a holiday home but if you’re undecided, here are just a few reasons why you should consider it.
Northern Ireland has both low-lying mountain ranges and higher, more rugged terrain. Slieve Donard is a popular hiking destination for those who like a higher peak (it’s actually the highest peak of Mournes in County Down and tops out at 850m) whilst the Sperrin Mountains in County Tyrone, is a less taxing, undulating moorland renowned for its beauty.
Northern Ireland is a great place to visit if you love museums. The Titanic infamously set sail from Belfast in 1912 and those interested in the discourse surrounding the voyage can visit the Titanic Quarter to learn about the history which includes Titanic Belfast, a thrilling and engaging interactive museum and a media centre and a scientific discovery centre.
But it’s not all about the Titanic. There are also two outdoor museums; the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum which can be found just outside of Belfast. Interested in the links between Northern Ireland and the United States? Be sure to pay a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park, near Omagh.
Belfast makes for the ideal city-break destination. It has a perfect mix of the old and the new with a wonderful heritage showcased with an array of beautiful stately Victorian buildings. But a brand new and exciting nightlife, a buzzing festival scene and delicious restaurants to try which really confirms the city’s rejuvenation. Speaking of restaurants...
Belfast has not one, but two, yes two restaurants that have their own Michelin star. You can visit Ox, and Eipic at Deane’s, whose sumptuous menu offers dishes such as scallop with clementine and hazelnut brown butter. Ever heard of the Ulster Fry? You might never go back to the traditional English fry-up once you’ve tasted this arguable better version!
Yep you read that right, you can visit the largest lake in the entirety of the British Isles - Lough Neagh. It actually borders five of the country’s six counties and you’ll find it just to the west of Belfast. Visitors can partake in some fishing and boating or if you prefer, staying clear of the actual water for some simple walking or cycling. There’s a flat trail you can attempt which gives you the best lake experience but it is 113 miles long!
