Okay, so you’ve made the decision that you want to buy a holiday home. Congrats! But where do you buy your new holiday home? Investing in a second home is a big decision so you’ve got to make sure both the home and location is suited to your needs. If you haven’t quite made your decision, here are some of our top tips for choosing the perfect location for your holiday home.

Think about what you want from your holiday home

First and foremost, you need to decide what it is you’re looking to get from your holiday home. Do you want lots of local attractions and activities to entertain the children? Are you looking for somewhere peaceful and serene? Or is it gorgeous views that would seal the deal on your new holiday home? By thinking about some key features and must-haves, you can then look at various locations and see if any tick all the boxes. Your holiday home has to be fit for purpose and the location plays a massive role in this.

Do your research

To narrow down your perfect holiday home location you have to get into research mode. Ask as many questions as you possibly can and always read customer reviews online. That will give you  a good indication of what the location is like. The more research you can do, the better, and you’re less likely to encounter any unwelcome surprises. When looking for the perfect location for your new holiday home, it’s important to not only research the holiday park itself, but the surrounding area. Does it get busy during peak tourist seasons? Is there enough to do? What’s the weather like throughout the year? Are there good places to eat and drink? These are the things you need to be researching before you settle on your perfect holiday home location.

Which brings us onto our next tip...

Visit before you buy

You can do all the online research in the world, but none of it will compare to actually seeing things with your own eyes. It’s like buying a house - you wouldn’t dream of purchasing your home without ever visiting the location. So why should your second home be any different? Visiting a few different locations gives you a true sense of what it will be like when you holiday there and it means you can see the pubs, restaurants, shops, facilities and any activities in person before you make your decision. It will also give you the opportunity to meet the locals and your potential new neighbours!
