Brits advised not to book holidays abroad this summer

5 February 2021

Whilst many may be dreaming of a summer out of the country, soaking up the sun and the sea air, it’s looking unlikely for Brits as the Government recently threw cold water on the idea of a scorching summer abroad.

The Government has advised the people of Britain against booking summer holidays abroad, as new border controls are likely to be introduced.

Vaccines Minister, Nadhim Zahawi, said:

“It’s far too early, there are still 37,000 people in hospital with Covid at the moment, it’s far too early for us to even speculate about the summer.”

He also confirmed that it is “too early” to know if foreign travel will be on the cards this summer.

Travel has been one aspect of regular life that has seen major disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, anyone arriving in the UK must self-isolate in the place they’re staying for the first 10 days, even if you tested negative before you arrived in England.

Plans have also been announced to make anyone travelling to England from a red-list country quarantine in a hotel. Arrivals will be met at the airport or point of entry and taken to the hotel so that self-isolation can be enforced "without exception."

Staycations on the rise

It’s unclear when travelling abroad will be accessible again and this has led to many Brits embracing the idea of the “staycation” and choosing to see the sights and wonders that the UK has to offer.

Holidaying within the UK has become so attractive and popular with Brits that many are even considering
buying a holiday home in the UK to really make the most of their down time.

Whilst this is undoubtedly due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and lockdown regulations, many are coming to realise the benefits owning a UK holiday home offers. Owning your own holiday home works out as more cost-effective in the long run, you can visit whenever you like, you don’t have to worry about luggage allowances or flight delays and you can even bring your beloved pet along for a little trip too.
